The birth of touch screens

Touch screens date back to the 60s of the 20th century. In 1965, E.A. Johnson invented and patented the first touch screen. However, due to the limitations of technology and insufficient market demand at that time, touch screens were not widely used. In the 1970s, with the popularization of computers and electronic equipment, touch screens were more widely used. The touch screen at that time mainly used resistive touch screen technology, which used the change in resistance between two layers of conductive film to detect the touch position. In the 80s of the 20th century, surface acoustic wave technology (SAW) began to be applied to touch screens, which used sound wave reflection to detect touch position, and its reliability was greatly improved. At the beginning of the 21st century, capacitive touch screens began to be widely adopted. Capacitive touch screens can not only provide higher accuracy and sensitivity, but also support multi-touch, which makes the operation of smart devices such as mobile phones and tablets more convenient. With the continuous development of touch screen technology, its application range is more and more extensive, such as medical equipment, self-service systems, electronic whiteboards, etc.
